What You Should Do Before You Get a Facelift

One of the best ways you can stop aging is to get a facelift. You can't actually stop the aging process as long as you are living, but you can do something to make it look as if you are forever young. If you take some time and make a plan of action, you won't have anything to worry about when that time comes. Be completely honest about what medications and allergies you have. Since you will be receiving anesthesia, it is important that you disclose this information so you won't have any allergic reactions or life-threatening complications. Medications have many different alternatives that can be given if you have problems, or a history of complications from a particular medication. This will also come in handy for your recovery. After your procedure, you will be given medication to keep you calm, pain free and comfortable as your face heals. This medication will also help to reduce the swelling and keep inflammation down to a minimum.

First, you will receive medication that will make you extremely comfortable before your facelift starts. Depending on what your health history is, your doctor may give you local, general or intravenous anesthesia. What procedures are you having for your facelift procedure? You could be getting facial implants to fill out your chin and other areas of your face that have shrunken in. Are you having soft tissue reconstruction and augmentation to reshape your face? Are you having microdermabrasion to resurface your skin and enhance the quality of its tone and texture? Or are you having Botox injections to give your face a more plump and fuller look?

After your anesthesia has taken effect, the next step is the incision. The kind of incisions you will receive again all vary according to which procedures you will have done. If you are having classic rhytidectomy surgery, then your incisions will be in the hairline, temples, near the ears and underneath the chin and neck. Fat can be redistributed and used to enhance your facial features. Facial tissue is also redistributed and muscles can be lifted to give a firmer appearance.

You won't be able to see results immediately after your procedure, however. Your face may be swollen and bruised, making it almost impossible to see what exactly has been done. Only after a few days, as the swelling begins to go down, will you begin to see the changes that were made to your face.

Now that you have completely healed, you will see how much younger you look. This will also make you feel much younger as well. Now instead of people being able to tell your age from your face, they won't know how old you are unless you tell them.
