Acne vulgaris (commonly known as acne) is a general skin condition,Why Minocycline is the best choice for getting rid of acne Articles which affects those areas of the skin having the densest population of sebaceous follicles – like the face, upper part of the chest and the back. In its severe form, acne is inflammatory, but it can also appear in non-inflammatory forms.

Acne affects the face and the upper neck generally, but the chest, back and shoulders may be afflicted as well. Typical lesions caused by acne are called comedones, inflammatory papules, pustules or nodules.

One of the conditions associated with acne is inflammation of the skin which occurs when the bacteria P.acnes (part of part of the skin flora present on most people's skin and living on fatty acids found in the sebaceous glands) gets to work. It infects the sebum and rapidly multiplies inside the gland. Once infection sets in, the gland gets inflamed and the infection spreads to the dermis and the cells deeper in the skin. If left unchecked, the acne ruptures after damaging the deeper skin cells and results in scars.

So how can acne be treated effectively? Minocycline, an orally ingested antibiotic can be a good choice to resolve acne with ease. It is to be administered twice a day in doses of 50 mg to once or twice daily in 100 mg doses. It is easily absorbed by the body and may be taken with food or milk. One should take Minocycline on an empty stomach in order to reap its full benefits.

So how does Minocycline work? The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of Minocycline block the development of certain bacteria and induce the body's immune system to attack and eliminate them.

Minocycline offers a number of advantages over other antibiotics used in treating acne including:

  • Lesser chance of suffering from upset stomach than with other antibiotics like Tetracycline.
  • Dosage can be reduced once the inflammation has subsided.
  • While some topical antibiotics can leave you sensitive to sunlight, Minocycline has virtually no sun-related side effects.
  • Unlike ordinary tetracyclines, chances of getting vaginal yeast infections from generic Minocycline are virtually nil.

So are there any down sides of treating acne with Minocycline? Even though Minocycline is a good choice, it is not without its cons, for its use may trigger side effects like

  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Stomach upset
  • Indigestion
  • Spells of dizziness
  • Rashes (rare but can be severe when they occur)

In case you are pregnant, avoid using minocycline or any generic minocycline as it can be harmful for your unborn child. Do not breast-feed if you are under medication as minocycline can reach the nursing baby through breast milk and may affect the growth of bones and teeth.
