Since the recent decline in the economy, the crime rate with regard to burglary and other property crimes has risen. The simple push button locks are very easy for criminals to break open in seconds. Leave some lights on or the TV on while you are out. Even better would be to install automatic timers on some of the lights in your house so that there will be the appearance of activity even while you are gone. Burglars like to steer away from people so if it looks like you are home, they will move on to an easier looking target.

Home security alarms are excellent pieces of equipment; however you cannot give them too much credit. No matter how good an alarm is it cannot lock your doors and windows for you. Although it will make a lot of noise and even alert the police there are still a handful of minutes for the thief to grab things and run out. The only true way to stay protected is to prevent the criminal from ever gaining access into your home. Using a few more pieces of equipment, common sense and effort on your part will accomplish this.
