Gutter covers have been around for many years but very few people take advantage of the fact that they can save a ton of time and effort each year. There are many parts of the world that receive a large amount of rain each year. In these locations, the majority of homes and offices have gutters installed on them. Gutters do a very simple job which is to direct the water off of the roof of a structure to the ground in a very controlled way. Anything that ends up in the horizontal portion of the gutter gets flushed away to the downspout. The downspout is the vertical pipe that takes the water and routes it to a predetermined dump site on the ground. Problems happen when you do not have gutter covers to prevent clogs from falling debris.The average gutter system is able to route large volumes of water from the rooftop to the ground, but it can also carry smaller bits of debris. Small leaves and pieces of trash are no match for a lot of the systems on the market. The problems occur when larger pieces of garbage or leaves get trapped in the pipes. It is possible that they will just stay lodged in the horizontal pieces, but they can eventually make it to the mouth of the downspout, or worse, get into the vertical pipe. If this happens you will find a lot more work in your future to clear the clog. If you pay others to do it, you may be able to get a discount on the fee since the work will be lessened greatly. The first thing is to climb up a ladder to the horizontal gutter portion. If you have guards then you will have to remove them when you get up there. Wet the debris in the gutter with a hose to make it easier to scoop out the dirt. Use a garden trowel or small shovel to scoop out as much dirt as you can. If you have guards then you will find that you may just have to move a bit of dirt around instead of truly scooping. Lastly you will take a hose and blast a high volume of water to blow out all of the debris. Reinstall your guards if you have them.The amount of time that it takes to complete these steps will vary depending on the gutter system you have.
