Have you ever experienced the situation when a group of cars follow one car which is traveling several kilometers below the posted speed limit? The lane on a highway is blocked from passing and you have to drive slowly. Isn't it irritating? Moreover, unnecessary slow driving is as dangerous as speeding! According to Ontario Highway Traffic Act,Traffic Ticket for Unnecessary Slow Driving  Articles unnecessary slow driving is strictly prohibited:


"132. (1) No motor vehicle shall be driven on a highway at such a slow rate of speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic thereon except when the slow rate of speed is necessary for safe operation having regard to all the circumstances. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 132 (1)."

Why Unnecessary Slow Driving is Dangerous?

Dangerous driving can be caused not only by speeding, but also by unnecessary slow driving. It delays traffic and leads to accidents. But why people drive that slow? The most common reason is lack of confidence or experience. A confused or uncertain driver prefers to drive slowly to avoid loosing control over the car. Yes, we can understand the reasons. However, unnecessary slow driving messes up the order and a general flow of traffic.

Driving too slowly majorly causes accidents and traffic jams. Well, everything is clear with traffic jams. What about accidents? Imagine such a picture: a fast car approaches a slow one and there is not enough space to change the lane or slow down. What happens? Collision, of course! In the best possible scenario, the fast driver slows down on time to avoid collision. However, all the situation will cause a long chain of cars that should slow down for the same reason. Or, in really bad situation, long chain of bumped cars.
