Vincent Van Gogh was born in 1853,It is Our Connections With Each Other That Leads to Success Articles it is well documented that Vincent rarely if ever socialized or networked with others during the course of his life. He was known as a loner. Even as a child while he attended school he would keep to himself and rarely if ever communicated with the other children at his school.Vincent had a great passion for art and many of his paintings depict the feelings of loneliness he experienced, which makes them so powerful and insightful. It is very sad, that Vincent being so talented was unable to have the confidence to network with others, so as to get his great works noticed. This inability to network with others led Vincent to suffer from not only extreme loneliness, but much frustration, major depression and often expressed how he wished no longer to live. It was out of his great despair he committed suicide in 1890, he was only 37 years old. During the course of his life Vincent produced 2000 paintings, which only one was ever sold during the course of his life. The most incredible fact is one of the paintings he painted in the last year of his life was the Portrait of Dr. Gachet, and it was this painting that sold for 82.5Million in 1990, exactly 100 years after his death. There is no doubt in my mind had Vincent had a greater level of confidence in himself and networked with others, the outcome of his life would have been completely different.

Pablo Picasso was born in 1881, Pablo just like Vincent had a strong passion for art, however, unlike Vincent, Pablo was extremely social during the course of his life despite the extreme difficulties he would experience. Pablo after studying art would relocate to France, where he met his best friend Max. Pablo and Max would rent an apartment together, Pablo would work at night and sleep during the day. While, Max would work by day and sleep during the night. These were times of extreme cold, poverty, and desperation. The cold winters called for desperate measures, in getting their apartment warm during the cold months Pablo would often burn his paintings. Despite these difficult times, Pablo believed he could become a great artist and strived to make himself known, he would carry his paintings around France introducing himself to art dealers and galleries, he would experience many rejections, but eventually a gallery owner was impressed by Pablo and his works. The gallery owner gave Pablo his own gallery space, he was 26 years old. In displaying his art he sold his first painting within the first week of displaying his art works and the sales continued. In the course of his life Pablo sold 1000’s of art pieces. Pablo died in 1973 at which time his estate was valued at 50Million.

This clearly demonstrates the power of connecting with others. If we don’t put ourselves out there and show the world what we have to offer, how will anyone ever come to know of us? That’s why you need to be courageous, have faith and get your works out there.
