Every electrical device or any other device will have different variations due to its manufacture by varying brands. Moreover,The different variations of pocket Watches Articles every brand will improve on its current production resulting in a changed product. It is no different wit pocket watches. To begin with, the watches have two categories.

The first variation of the watches is the open face type. These watches do not have a cover for protection and hence their name. The watches will usually have two pendants. One is be found around the position of 12:00 while the second one is located around the position of 6:00 (this is the sub-second dial). Sometimes the watches could have a conversion dial. This dial places the winding stem at 12:00 and places a dial for the sub-second at 3:00.

The other class of pocket watches is the hunter case type. It has a cover that is hinged with a spring. The essence of the cover is to protect the dial and the crystal of the watch from dust, and from being scratched. As a result, the watch can stay for a long time without suffering any damage. There are the watches that will have this cover being hinged at 7:00 whereas there are the pocket watches that have their covers being hinged at 6:00. Irrespective of the position of the cover, the dial for sub-seconds is placed at the position around 6:00.

The pocket watches can also be classified in terms of movements. The first category has a key for winding and one for setting the movements. This was the case since the creation of the watches up to the 19th century. Therefore, for someone to set the watch you had to open the case back. On either of the rotating shafts, you were able to use the key to adjust the watches appropriately.

The second type of these movements on the watches was a development of the above method. It was a stem-based wind and set-movements type of watch. This was developed in the years after 1850. At the time of its development, this kind of a watch was very precious and was only used at first by the royal family.

With time, the pocket watches developed to the stem-wind, and lever-set movements. The rail workers used these watches. For you to set the watch, you had to open the crystal so that you could pull the setting lever. For the set time to be effective, you had to close the crystal.
