If you are history buff and visiting to Vietnam. Hue city is definitely a Must-Visit in your list. It was served as the Last Royal Ancient Capital of 13 Kings of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 - 1945) and here is the List of our 13 Emperors:

  1. Emperor Gia Long: (Ruled the country for 18 years from 1802 - 1820)
  2. Emperor Minh Mang: (Ruled the country for 20 years from 1820 - 1841)
  3. Emperor Thieu Tri: (Ruled the country for 7 years from 1841 - 1847)
  4. Emperor Tu Duc: (Ruled the country for 36 years from 1847 - 1883)
  5. Emperor Duc Duc: (Ruled the country for 3 days from 20-23 Jul 1883)
  6. Emperor Hiep Hoa: (Ruled the country for 4 months from 30 Jul to 29 Nov 1883)
  7. Emperor Kien Phuoc: (Ruled the country for 8 months from 2nd Dec 1883 to 31st Jul 1884)
  8. Emperor Ham Nghi: (Ruled the country for 14 months from 2nd Aug 1884 to 19th Sep 1885)
  9. Emperor Dong Khanh: (Ruled the country for 3 years from 1885 to 1888)
  10. Emperor Thanh Thai: (Ruled the country for 19 years from 1888 to 1907)
  11. Emperor Duy Tan: (Ruled the country for 9 years from 1907 to 11916)
  12. Emperor Khai Dinh: (Ruled the country for 9 years from 1916 to 1925)
  13. Emperor Bao Dai: (Ruled the country for 20 years from 1925 to 1945)

Emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty built their tombs while they were still alive because of the Confucian view of "birth and death" and the non-innate philosophy of the Buddha. Built-in tombs have two functions: a place when kings live sometimes to play and burial when they die.
