Recently, Arthur Brett has noticed an increasing trend in the larger pieces of bespoke furniture. The striking deskpictured on teh website is a Gillows design. Thetwin-pedestal desk in mahoganyis supported by finely reeded columns on brass castors. The inset leather-writingsurface is hand-coloured and surrounded by a decorative handmade brass gallery. It is 84cm height x 160cm width x 91cm depth.
Breakfront bookcasesare also proving to be in high demand. An example pictured here is an extremely fine mahogany carved breakfront bookcase from a design attributed to Thomas Chippendale. This piece shows superb quality craftsmanship in many unusual features, such as finely pierced and fretted hexagon galleries around the top and finely applied carvings to all three doors.
