There is so much information out right now about how important the mobile audience is that restating the point is simply redundant. Just about everybody has some sort of a mobile device in their pocket. You probably have a smartphone,Reaching the Mobile Audience Articles a tablet, or another device that allows you to browse the Internet and access digital services outside of using a desktop computer.

Where digital advertising is concerned, how you reach mobile customers is really the issue. You already know that you do have to make an effort to engage with them.

Online advertising for a world that is increasingly unfettered from desktop computers does involve some technical elements. Here are the basics so you can have a better understanding of what it is you’re looking for when you try to reach people when they are out and about.

What Does “Responsive” Mean?

Responsive design is recommended by Google, which means that it’s what you should use. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Google dictates a lot of what goes on as far as online advertising is concerned and, because everybody is trying to get in the mega-giant company’s favor, it makes sense to take their advice in this regard.

A mobile website needs to accommodate not only smaller screen sizes than desktop computers have, but also a variety of different sizes in fact. You might be serving the same site to one customer who has an iPad with a very large screen and a person who has a small smart phone that they bought because it fits easily in their pocket.

Responsive designs adjust the display of the page to accommodate the screen size. This is what Google prefers. The technology used involves CSS 3 and others. In addition to this, Google recommends that the site you have set up for customers on these devices has a separate subdomain. Typically, this is differentiated by putting the letter “M” in front of your regular domain. For example: m.YourBusiness.com.
