The definition of a medium tells us that these are the people who are supposed to have the powers that allow them to communicate with people,Definition Of Mediums Articles or the spirits of people that exist in realms other than our own. These individuals are supposed to be able to obtain information from the spirit world and they are capable of sharing this information with those of us that reside in this world.

Part of the mediumship information that may be useful to the reader is to learn that there are different types of experiences that the people who claim to have these powers have. Some of them "see" the spirits they are talking to and some of them merely "hear" what the spirits have to say to them.

Mental mediumship is accomplished by the individuals through telepathy. A person that is said to be able to "hear" the spirits of the dead is said to be clairaudience. A person that is reported as having the ability to "see" the spirits of the dead are said to be clairvoyant. People who are supposed to be capable of feeling the presence of the spirits are said to be receiving clairsentience messages.

Often times the individuals who are said to have the power to communicate with the dead will go into a state that is known as a trance. Trance mediumship is said to be when the spirit possesses the mind of the psychic and uses the psychic to relay the messages they have. A person is generally conscious during these periods but they are not generally aware of what they are doing or saying at the time. This is when the person may speak in languages they are otherwise unfamiliar with or may relate to the person they are doing the reading for information that they should not be privileged to.

There are psychics that can cause physical manifestations such as the levitating of objects or the manifestation of objects that everyone in the room can perceive. These people are performing an act of physical mediumship.

Some psychics like Leslie Flint have been known to speak in the direct voice of the spirit that they were in communication with. This requires the spirit to extract ectoplasm from a living person in order to be able to have a "voice".

Channeling has become a much more popular and common form of mediumship. These types of psychic experiences include the person going into a trance that is so deep the spirit can actually manifest physically in their body and use the vessel to speak and touch the person they are communicating with. It also includes the acts of the psychic person hearing what the spirit has to say and simply relaying the message as a third party observer.
