Essential Questions to Ask Prior to Hiring a Removalist
You are moving and you need to hire a moving company. But you don’t just hire the first company that you find. You need to visit them and make sure that they are a recommended and trustworthy interstate removalist.
This is why you need to make sure that you are asking as many questions as possible. To ensure that you know that you can trust the company with something as important as all your belongings. These are the top 4 questions that you need to ask any moving company before signing a contract with them.
Do you have a proper license and insurance?
It might sound like a strange question, but this is the most important question to ask. They need to have a license as a registered business, and they need to have business insurance.
There are many moving companies that think that they don’t need to have a license and that they can skip paying business taxes. This is a risk to you and your belongings to use a business like this. And, if they don’t have insurance, it will mean that if something happens to your belongings, that you are going to be held responsible and not the moving company.
How many years experience do you have as a moving company?
It’s important that you find out the number of years the company has in the industry and in particular, the experience they have with the specific services that you’re after; backloading, furniture removals, interstate removals etc. The more experience they have, the more trustworthy they will be. You don’t want to use a company that hasn’t done this a lot. And, that doesn’t have the experience to know what to do in case of an emergency.
The more experience they have, the better. You should not just take their word for it. With an online search, you can see when the company was registered. Then, you can also see if they have a valid license or if they have lied about that.
Do you have references available that I can contact?
This is a question that many are afraid to ask. They think that this isn’t allowed to ask for references that can be contacted. That it is unethical and that they have the right to say no.
It isn’t the truth. You have the right to ask them for references that can be phoned to make sure that they are recommended by their previous clients. If they have done a great job previously, they don’t need to be scared about giving you names and numbers. However, if they don’t want to, you can always go online and google reviews and recommendations. You will easily find negative or positive reviews.
How well are your trucks maintained? Can I see a proof?
You have the right to ask to see the trucks and their maintenance records. After all, they are going to use the trucks to move your belongings to the new location. And, it is just right that you know the condition that the truck is going to be in.
And, when you are seeing the truck and you are satisfied, write down the number plate of that specific truck. Make sure that this is the truck that they are going to use for your shipment. It might happen that they are showing you their best truck, but going to use one of the less maintained trucks for your shipment. Make sure that the number plate is going to be stated in the contract.
With these questions, you will not make a mistake in hiring a moving company that will give you more problems than anything else. You need to remember that you are using them to transport all your belongings. And, making sure that they take care of it, is your responsibility. This is why you need to hire the best moving company you can find.
