How To Design A Jewelry Gift

There are many times during the course of a year when you want to give the perfect gift. It may be for Christmas, birthdays or some other special occasion. If you are a jewelry maker you may choose to design that gift.

The question is where should you start. How can you design an article of jewelry that you are confident others will enjoy and wear? Of course you are not going to find a guarantee, but these tips may help you to design a perfect gift.

Start with an analysis of the person. Who are you designing this piece of jewelry for?

The following questions may help with your analysis. How much jewelry does this person normally wear? Does the person most often wear large pieces of jewelry or small ones? What is the person's favorite color? What is the person's birthstone? Does the person prefer gold or silver?

Now, after answering these questions you will want to choose an item to design. If the person is someone you know well, such as a sister, you may feel confident in making a bracelet for them, especially if you have about the same sized wrist. If you do not know the person all that well, it may be a better bet to design earrings, a bracelet with memory wire or a necklace. For men who do not wear jewelry, a tie clip or key chin is always a safe bet.

Start the design on paper. Unless you have a great thought or inspiration that hits, you can start on paper. Then you can easily add or subtract pieces as you design the piece. This also lets you set down the design and think on it overnight. If you are designing a piece for someone else to use as a gift, then you can share the sketch to incorporate their ideas into the design.

Make a model of the design you are planning. You do not have to use your best materials to make the design model. You are wanting to have some idea of what the finished piece of jewelry should look like when it is complete. If the piece is one similar to another you have already made, but you are changing colors of the beads or metal, just lay everything side by side to so you can know how they will look when placed together. Some people that work a lot with beads use a bead board for this purpose.

One advantage of designing a gift yourself is that it is always unique. You do not run the risk of purchasing the same gift for a person that someone else has already bought. Another is that you can often give a gift that is worth far more than dollars and cents. The person will know how special they are that you took time out of your day to design something especially for them.

If you use these tips you can create a perfect gift designed just for your loved one or friend. While almost everyone appreciates your efforts at making jewelryArticle Submission, it is nice to know that you have designed a gift for the specific person.
