The various types of psychic readings can be split into groups,The Many Types Of Divination Reading Articles subgroups and methods.

The two groups are:

1) Face to face readings. As the name suggests, these are performed in person, either one to one or within a group, as for instance in a séance.

2) Distance readings. These can be done by mail, phone, video or online sessions (the choice here is e-mail, live chat or instant messaging).

Within these two groups, we have two, namely structured and unstructured, subgroups.

The structured subgroup employs pre-defined meanings of various symbols, calculations or alignments interpreted in relation to an individual and/ or their situation. Methods included here are, for instance, Tarot Cards (Each card has it's own meaning; a selection of a number of cards is laid out in a particular spread and then interpreted in conjunction with the person/ question/ situation; other forms may include angel, bird, animal or even ordinary playing cards); numerology (based on the occult meanings of numbers, a number calculated from the birth date and often the name of an individual is used in interpretation or prediction); astrology (time, date and place of an individual's birth, their corresponding sign of the zodiac, planetary alignments and positions.

A variety of other aspects are used to discern past events, present influences and developments as well as possible future outcomes) and palm readings, which are interpreted according to the lines, mounds and curves present on an individual's palms. Runes, consisting of 24 symbols from which a selection is usually also arranged and interpreted in spreads and the I Ching, where particular sequences of coins (or sometimes sticks) thrown will determine one of a possible 64 patterns, each with it's own meaning, are also included here.

Within the unstructured subgroup, psychics will only use their own inner abilities or gifts in order to present an answer or solution to the individual. Methods included are, for example, Psychometry (based on the assumption that an object belonging or closely related to a person or event will hold some of their energy, the psychic will detect this energy and use it to access relevant information); aura or auric readings.

These include the interpretation of various colours and patterns within the aura and various sensory readings, such as clairvoyance (a perception of images), clairaudience (perception of voices and/ or sounds) or clairsentience (perceptions of touch, feelings such as pain, etc), all of which will make it possible for the reader to gain knowledge regarding the past and present, as well as the future. A session with a medium, also included here, may contain one or more of these sensory perceptions.

There is no doubt that some, if not many, psychics have developed their own, personal methods which are known either only to them, or otherwise maybe to a small group of fellow psychics. Whatever method is chosen, whether common or secret, there is one thing they all have in common - they are used to help individuals to make better choices.
