The  spiritualist church movement really came to life in America in the 1840’s and later spread to Britain around 1870. Basically it is a loosely bonded church movement aimed to spread spiritualism and psychic ability tends to play a large part.. This became a little more formalized later in the 1950s when the Spiritual National Union and the Spiritual Christians became established. Although they are two separate organizations,The SNu Movement Articles they both hold to the idea of spiritualism.

In Britain, the spiritualist churches are recognized as a religion. A spiritualist church’s main objective is to prove that life continues after our earthly body ceases to function.  The soul and spirit of each person passes on and is able to communicate with the living to reassure them of life after death. Because of this many churches teach psychic abilities to those that have any wish to learn. Natural psychics are drawn to these churches as here they are no longer regarded as freaks. All the psychics here tend to go through the same type of training and personally I am not always sure it is a good thing. I don’t feel that a set formula is good for natural growth of a God given psychic. While this kind of training is great to help some to develop latent gifts, someone who already has the full blown gift might well be stifled by the set restriction of this type of establishment. I have seen too often that people with a little power tend to abuse their privileges. It is important for the development of all to realize that not all gifts are equal and some need to be allowed to expand without a set of rules. While this is one aspect of a spiritualist medium church, the other side of it is the service that the people attend just as in any other church. The normal Sunday service usually takes place and is often follow with one or more psychic mediums giving demonstrations of life after death by giving proof in the form of a medium ship reading to those that they feel drawn to and allowing their loved ones to come through for them to show that indeed life go on after death. This is usually the highlight of the service and people come again and again in the hopes of being connected once more to their loved ones.

Spiritualist churches have spread all over the world and can be found in almost all countries nowadays.  They may not always be known by the same name but the function remains the same.  Almost always you will find this is where you will find the psychic mediums of the world. The growth of these churches over the last couple of hundred years has been nothing short of phenomenal.
