Porch swings are something a lot of people associate with childhood and being on the porch of their grandparents house. They really stand out when used for decoration on a front porch and can be the main focal point or just another item to fit the perfect theme. You can have different colored cushions as well to further make them fit in with other colored furniture and decorations on your porch. Before you buy one there are a few thing to consider.

First you should measure the area where you are planning to install the porch swing,Things To Consider Before Buying Porch Swings Articles so you can know what size of a swing you can buy. Make sure there will also be enough room for it to swing without hitting anything and that there is plenty of clearance from the ground. You don't want to have to hang it to high or low so that it is hard to get in or so your legs drag on the floor when you swing back and forth.

Next decide on the actual size of the swing you want. There are swings that can be just for one person, a love seat, or one that can hold 3 or more people. If you are going to get one that holds multiple people then be sure that you have a strong support structure to hold the weight of more people. You should look for a strong support beam to hang the swing from or any area of the roof that will be able to hold it. If there isn't an area that you feel will be able to support the weight then it is best to go with an A-frame to hang the swing independently from the house. This way it can still go on your porch as long ad you have adequate space. An A-frame is also a great choice because you can move the swing around to different areas of the house later on.

Remember to include in your budget for buying a swing, the cost of cushions. Most swings are fairly comfortable for small amounts of time sitting but anything longer can be a little hard on your back and butt. If you have soft cushions then this is not an issue and you can lounge around for hours.
