Use These Measure to Prevent a Burglary While You are on Vaction

Break-ins occur at apartment communities in big cities all the time. If you live in an apartment community and your about to go on vacation, you will want to take some preemptive measures to act as a deterrent to crime. Many people don't know that if they just took a few extra steps, this could have prevented a burglary.

If you have an apartment that faces the street or is on the ground level, step outside and examine it from an outsider’s point of view. If someone can spot valuables like electronics or valuable artwork, you probably might want to rearrange the setup inside your apartment home, or use your blinds to hide the interior views. If you can see whats inside so can potential burglars and criminals.

Next make sure all doors and windows are locked. Many people forget to lock doors to their patio and windows that are accessible from the outside. If you have one of those sliding glass doorways you will want to wedge a pole or metal piece that will prevent other from slide the door open in case they are able to bypass the lock. Do you have a door to your own private garage, don’t forget to lock this door too.

If you are renting an apartment community that has timers for lights, you can program them to remain on during the nighttime and shutoff during the daytime. This will give people the appearance that someone is home. If you have a newspaper or magazine subscription have a neighbor pick them up or cancel them while you are away.

Remember to keep your blinds and shades up on a few of your windows. If you close all of them, it may give the appearance nobody is home. Many of the apartment communities today have intrusion alarms. If you have this ability, be sure and do so.

Also you should let your neighbors know when are where you are going. They may be willing to keep an eye on your place for you. If you trust them, you could even give them a key so they can check on your apartment home on a daily basis.
