The zero point energy is based completely on Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle. The Heisenberg uncertainty principle states that for every moving particle, the more precise you are when you measure the position, the less exact the measure of momentum will be, and vice versa. This uncertainty is not because of anything that is flawed in the means of the way the measurements were taken, the uncertainty actually reflects a fuzziness that exists in the very nature of energy.
