Car insurance is auto insurance coverage that is purchased by the vehicle owner to help protect and pad possible expenses incurred when there is an accident or damage to the vehicle and the individuals in the vehicle during the time of the accident. There are several types of packages that the automobile owner may choose from. 

Bodily Injury

This aspect of the car insurance covers bodily injury and even death of anybody whom the automobile owner is responsible for. This includes people who were either a passenger in the vehicle or was injured or was a fatality outside of the vehicle during the accident. This does not cover the vehicle owner and any other person's whom the car owner has placed in the policy. It is basically a third party coverage. 

The claims included in bodily injury include pain and suffering, loss of income and medical bills of the third party whom the car owner has inconvenienced. The amount of cover may also include any lawsuits that might be filed against the person who owns the vehicle. This is important since some cases may be financially detrimental to a person's assets. This is important because a very low coverage will force the individual to liquidate assets and pay for the excess amount not covered by the policy. Since the bodily injury does not include damage to the automobile, it is a good idea and often a requirement by some companies, to have a similar coverage for the vehicle. 

Property Damage Liability

This type is usually focused on other property that the vehicle may have damaged during the accident. Included here is the other automobile that the owner may have collided with or the fence, houses and other structures that may have been damaged during the accident. This type of insurance is limited to the amount that the individual purchases during registration. 

Comprehensive Cover

This is one of the more complete covers for vehicular accidents. It includes damages to the vehicle during accidents as well as other forms of damage to the car. Theft, some act of God damages, animals and fire are usually included with it. Vehicles which are still under a loan or is financed may be required to have this form of insurance.
