Choosing an option pack for your new car

When buying a new car you should always keep in mind that one day you will want to sell the car. There are many things you can do to help your new car hold its value, choosing the best options to have installed is often the most important decision you will make when it comes to selling.

Option packs are available when you order the car new from the manufacturer via a dealer or directly. Option packs do not usually contain anything which could not be individually ordered and fitted to the vehicle when it was assembled but are often cheaper than ordering each option individually and can make the car more desirable / retain its value better.

Typically an option pack contains a group of options which are related or often ordered together. For example a sports pack often contains Alloy Wheels, Spoilers, Sports Interiors, Sports pedals and Traction Control. Whereas Climate packs often contain Air Conditioning, Heated glass & washer jets, Rain Sensors and Sun protection glass.

These packs can affects how desirable your car is and how well it retains its value, however, the overall attractiveness of a pack may change during the lifetime of the vehicle. For example in the past having the Smokers pack installed when you ordered the car was generally thought of as a good pack to install, today however the Smokers pack will generally have a negative impact on your cars value. So if you are buying a new car you should remember that some packs may turn from being an asset to your vehicle to a liability.

Technical packs however have always proven to help your vehicle hold its value. In the past an integrated audio system was viewed as highly desirable. Not only did this improve the look and feel of the interior of the car but theft of car sound systems was rampant at the time and in built systems where virtually impossible to steal. Today it is the norm for a car to have an inbuilt sound system and is standard in new cars so now the most desirable packs contain Satellite Navigation, MP3 players / adapters and Parking sensors.

In the future it is conceivable that built in Digital media players, on-board computer systems even internet connectivity will become desirable as today's option packs are integrated into the standard features for a basic model.

Whatever you would like from you new car it is worth remembering that eventually you will want to sell it and that spending an extra few hundred pounds when ordering the car can make all the difference when selling it later on. For some cars, such as Mini'sBusiness Management Articles, option packs can be worth thousands when it comes to selling your car.
