Dodge is well known for its trucks, and for good reason. Read this article if you'd like to learn a few of the reasons why people are so fiercely devoted to this truck manufacturer.

Dodge is an American automobile manufacturer that is well known for its trucks. This company was founded in the 1900's by the Dodge brothers,Dodge Trucks: Why People Like Them Articles John and Horace. Originally, their business began to make parts for the auto assembly line factories which were prevalent in Detroit. By the year 1914, they began to manufacture complete cars for the United States, and the company currently sells automobiles in sixty countries around the world. Although this manufacturer makes a variety of vehicles, it is especially known for its trucks. 

From early on, light duty truck varieties were created. Next came medium varieties, and by the 1940's, heavier models was available. Eventually, four-wheel drive options became popular. Four-wheel drives were originally designed to be utilized as military equipment, but soon the trend caught on with the American public. They called these all-terrain road machines "Power Wagons." Not only did these rugged four-wheel drives catch on, but in the 1960's, luxurious features were added as well. 

Dodge was the first vehicle maker to put passenger car features into these rugged vehicles formerly used for work or military activities. This was a whole new concept that was very well received. The added features were sold in packages with names such as "Adventurers" in order to attract customers. Instead of cramped cabs, these models were roomy and more comfortable.

The Ram has been around for years and has come in different types. Another popular vehicle was named the Dakota. It the seventies, a new line was created called "Adult Toys." This tag line was created in order to entice customers and boost sales. What little boy didn't like playing with trucks? Grown men are just older little boys and still like their toys. In this line, names of vehicles included "Lil' Red Express," "Warlock," and "Macho Power Wagon."

Trucks can be used for a variety of purposes. Of course, the number one purpose is to get the driver and his or her passengers from Point A to Point B, but unlike most automobiles, its bed can serve many alternate functions.

- Work: The truck-bed can haul construction materials to and from job sites. It can transport crops to market for farmers. It can carry ladders, paints, scaffolding and paintbrushes for painters. It can tote landscapers with yard maintenance equipment to commercial and residential properties and then haul away clippings, branches and debris.

- Home: Individuals can move their own furniture and belongings when they relocate. They can put their motorcycles, bicycles and all terrain vehicles in the bed to transport across country or to a racing event. Motorists who like to check out the wares of flea markets and garage sales can always have a way to get their treasured finds back home.

- Recreation: Campers have been known to roll out their sleeping bags in the comfort of their own truck-bed. Sporting events can be watched from this transportable spot in tail-gate parties. Canoes, kayaks and tubes can be brought to rivers and creeks.

Trucks made by Dodge have been around for nearly one hundred years. They have grown in popularity and are now driven by motorists around the globe.
