Finding a Good Mechanic to Perform an Oil Change

Getting an oil change for your car or truck is as important as filling the tank with gas or making sure there is air in the tires. If you are one of those people who tends to put off getting maintenance done on your car because it is time consuming, expensive or because you have not found the right professional for the job then you need to find a mechanic who will offer you excellent service at the right price and who knows how to work at a speedy pace!

An oil change is essential for the proper running of your car. While all cars are not exactly the same in how often they require an oil change most need to be changed approximately every three thousand miles. It is also depends upon how often you drive your motor vehicle. This means that you will need to take your car into the shop a few times a year.

You can switch shops as often as you like but it is nice to be able to find a mechanic who treats you (and your car) with respect and integrity. It is important when you arrive at a garage that you feel that your business matters to the proprietor's of the shop. If you go in to have work done on a day that is very busy then you can expect a bit of a wait. However if the shop is not busy at all and you find that you have been waiting for 30 to 40 minutes then you need to check with the front desk staff to find out why it is taking so long. If this happens often when you come in for regular maintenance then you should seek out another mechanic to do the necessary work you need performed on your automobile.

A good mechanic who is qualified, competent, and concerned about your business will be prompt and will follow the correct procedures. For instance when oil is changed on a motor vehicle the filter is supposed to be replaced. If you take your car to a location that you are unsure of then ask the mechanic what kind of filter he used and ask to see the old filter that was removed. If the mechanic is more than happy to show you then you are likely dealing with a garage that offers honest service. If not then it is time to take your business elsewhere. You might even want to let the Better Business Bureau (BBB) know about your bad experience.

It is not uncommon for mechanics to try to sell you other services at the time of your oil change. They are only doing their jobs so do not allow yourself to be annoyed by this. However you do not have to purchase any other services if you feel that you do not require them. You may find once in a while that one of the other services is something that your car could use, such as having the tires rotated. Do not feel obligated to say yes to anything you do not need. Just say yes to what you know for sure that you need.
