If you own an ATV you may not be old enough to drive an automobile,Getting An Oil Change for Your ATV Articles so you may know nothing about getting an oil change. Just as it is important in an automobile, it is also important for your ATV. If you are not sure whether you should do this maintenance on your own then ask a parent or someone you know that might be able to help you to follow the steps to doing an oil change on your ATV.

As you begin the process to take care of changing the oils on your ATV it is important to have the right tools to do so. You will probably want sockets, extension, and a torque wrench. You will also want a ratchet and a funnel with a long nose.

Your next step to change the oil in your ATV is to drain the oils. You will have to find where the area is and then you will need to take out the drain plug to drain the oils. Make sure that you have a pan in the right spot to catch all of the oils. Also be careful not to lose the washer that is on the drain plug. You will want to put the plug and washer back on the engine once all of the oils are drained out.

You will do something similar to the previous step with the crankcase. You will need to drain this by taking out the plug and washer and replacing them as well.

Just as in a car, you should probably get a new filter on your ATV when changing the oils. This might be somewhat tricky because you will need to focus on how the filter was arranged before you removed it so that you can put the new one in the right position as well. You might need to change the O-ring that is there as well if it has been damaged. The spring that is likely there will also need to be put back where it was.

You will want to make sure and end your process by refilling the oils. You should only add about ¼ of the oil into the tank and then turn on the ATV so you can check for leaks or other problems that you may have happened with the assembly of your vehicle. You should fill up the tank once you have checked the ATV.

Hopefully as a young person you will now be able to take care of this aspect of the maintenance on your own ATV once you and an adult go through the process together. If you are a young person, make sure that you have your parent's permission before doing an oil change on your own.
