When it comes to regular maintenance to your car are you the first to take it out to the shop,Oil Change – Finding the Right Mechanic Articles or do you delay? If you delay it’s probably because you’re worried about the service that you and your car are going to receive during your trip. It is annoying to go somewhere and have to worry about what type of service you’ll endure. Oil changes are no different. They need to be done as regularly as three thousand miles, depending on your car, but is it a hassle to take it in. If you think it is, maybe you need to find a different shop.

Oil changes are something that you’ll be seeing your mechanic for several times a year, depending on how much you actually drive your car. You shouldn’t have to worry about how you’re going to be treated when you walk in the door. You need to feel like you can go in and get the maintenance performed and be out the door quickly thereafter. Unless the shop is busy you shouldn’t wait any longer than thirty minutes for your car to be serviced. If your mechanic is taking longer than this, without a line in front of you, you might want to find someone else.

Another thing you need to make sure of is the filter. There have been complaints of some oil change locations not replacing the filter every time you come in, even though they still charge you for a new one. If you are suspicious of your mechanic doing this, ask to see the old filter. Ask what type of filter they use. Crawl under your car before and after the change and see if the filter looks new. If not, not only is it time to find a different shop, you need to report them to the better business bureau.

Most locations are going to try to upsell you on services. It’s a way to make money so don’t fault them for that. What you need to watch out for is those services that you don’t necessarily need at the time and they try to push them on you anyway. Just because you’ve come in for an oil change doesn’t mean that you have to have your tires rotated. This is a good idea to do periodically but it doesn’t have to be done and don’t let them tell you otherwise.

Oil changes at a mechanic’s shop are a simple way for you to get your car serviced. It is an important maintenance step that your car needs regularly to stay running right. You don’t have to go to a particular mechanic just because that’s the one you’ve always used. You need to find the right mechanic for you and then you can feel confident about any maintenance, no matter how routine.
