Oil Change Protects Engine Parts

A car’s engine is full of small, and not so small moving parts. As they run continuously during operation they rub against each other and create friction, friction creates heat and the combination leads to malfunctions in the operation of a motor. To combat these damaging elements an automobile has a complex system of lubrication that keeps all of the parts not only running smoothly but also dissipates heat. This lubrication needs to be drained and refilled occasionally and that is why cars need an oil change.

The biggest danger of an engine running dry is that the parts eventually get to the point that they melt and seize together. This causes an engine to lock up and it completely destroys the motor. Once the pieces fuse there is no way to separate them and get the machine back to the way it was. As such it is clear that lubrication is an important part of an engine but why does it need to be replaced? Well as it does its job heat and other conditions in the engine break down some lubricant.

There are also a number of additives that aid in the function of the engine and they break down as well. Some of them increase fuel efficiency others clean out grime but in general they contribute to the function of the machine. Additionally part of the lubricants job is to clean out grit and grime. Each little bit of dirt and debris creates more friction and makes the liquid less effective. Over time it accumulates and then an oil change is necessary to replace the soiled fluids with some that are fresh.

Most people realize that this is an important function and as such needs to be maintained regularly but they take the recommendations from their service shop as mere guidelines and don’t have service done regularly. Every car comes with manufacturer recommendations of how often a car needs an oil change in many cases it is 3000 miles but sometimes it is as high as 7500 under certain driving conditions.

Whatever the suggestion is be sure that you are operating under those conditions and that you are having an oil change as often as is necessary from the kinds of driving you are doing. Generally to be on the safe side and ensure maximum life out of your car have an oil change every 3000 miles.
Regular maintenance keeps not only a car running more efficiently but in fact keeps it in better condition. In order to get maximum mileage with minimum wear it is vital that the lubricant is switched out regularly.
