In fact, some shops offer a ride home and back to make it convenient for customers, so ask about this service if you have no one to drive you. Of course, if the wait will likely be an hour or so, it usually makes sense to stay.

If you decide to stay, you can always ask if there are any stores or restaurants nearby that you can walk to. This way, you can have lunch, get a drink, or even do a little shopping while you get an oil change. You can ask about the local shops when you arrive at the business, or you can call ahead so you can plan. Many mobile phones also let you search on a map to find stores you can walk to, so this is an option when you arrive.

You may choose to stay in the waiting room during the oil change. Just make sure it is properly set up for customers. This means there should be comfortable seats that you can sit in for a few hours. There should also be a television and magazines, as well as bathrooms and a water fountain. These are the basic amenities that most shops offer. Some, however, take it a step further and provide computers that customers can use while they wait. If the business you visit does not have computers, it should at least have free wireless Internet so you can connect on your laptop. This lets you pass the time without getting bored as you wait for your car to be serviced.

Some people even choose their favorite auto repair shop based on the waiting room. After all, if you have to be there for hours, it should be at least decently comfortable for you. Fortunately, you can inquire about these amenities before you even arrive since a phone call should get all your questions answered.
