The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid is certainly no ordinary Ford sedan. The latest Ford Fusion has been completely redesigned for 2010, with sleeker styling and new engines and transmissions. Set squarely in the Ford Fusion Hybridís sights is the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Targeting the Camry will be no easy feat admits for the Fusion admits Portland ME Ford, but based on its latest styling and features, it certainly isnít outside the realm of possibility.

The hybrid system that powers the Fusion is similar to the one used onboard the Escape Hybrid SUV. Using a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine that has its own system for maximizing fuel efficiency called the Atkinson cycle, the Fusionís engine is accompanied by an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. The gasoline engine produces a respectable 155 horsepower and 136 lb ft of torque. Unlike the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Used Cars Denverpoint out that the new Fusion hybrid features a full hybrid system, which means that Fusion can operate entirely on battery power for a prolonged about of time.

Like with other hybrid vehicles, the Ford Fusionís gasoline engine shuts off when stopped at a red light, while other systems such as the stereo continue to operate without interruption. When the vehicle gets going again, the gas engine kicks in as itís restarted by the electric motor without the help of a traditional starter.

The interior is a bit different says one Ford dealership in St Louis thanks to the new SmartGauge system, which includes Fordís EcoGuide system. This system provides a variety of information such as the battery charge status. It can also indicate when the systemís power consumption and displays other data as well. Thereís even an area where leaves sprout up from the side of the display to indicate more economical driving, while a heavy foot will cause those leave to fall off of the dash.

The gauge is attractive and whimsical, but also provides useful data in regard to the Fusionís fuel and electricity consumption. Some drivers may turn it off as it is a bit flashy, but most drivers will likely have it remain active.
