There are certain requirements that a person has to meet and
credentials he/she must obtain to be a commercial driver. Commercial drivers
are known as professional drivers- meaning that they are held to a higher
standard on the road. Most UK companies require a good driving record and a CDL
(Commercial Drivers License). Drivers who want to drive for European Union
countries must go through training and obtain a CPC certificate. CPC stands for
Certificate of Professional Competence. This CPC driver training is required
for all UK drivers who want to drive professional buses, coach, or lorry. In
fact, any minibus that has nine seats or more are required to obtain a CPC.
Qualifications for this program are split into four parts:
Part One: The theory test-basically a multiple choice test that covers hazard
education. Part Two: Case Studies-basic knowledge of the training. Part Three:
License acquisition-tests the ability of the driver to operate the vehicle.
Part Four: The driver practical test-vehicle safety test and demonstration. All
drivers will be required to complete thirty-five hours of periodic training
every five years to keep their certification.
There are many different types of UK programs for different
types of businesses. LGV training(Large Goods Vehicle Training). This program focuses on certain goods such as:
food, wood, coal, etc. It is also similar to the training mentioned earlier. It
has the same requirements and generally the same education. There is a
difference in the price to take the courses for these programs (prices will
vary) and are offered in the UK. There is a huge shortage of LGV drivers around
the UK. Anyone who is willing to deal with UK weather and
terrain can easily pass the tests these programs issue. There are study guides
that companies offer and there are many companies that sell them online.
