Necessity is the mother of all inventions and this seems to be true with the current trend in the car market. The demand for the small passenger car sales are becoming the talking point of every auto market all over the world. Skoda too has decided to take the leap of faith with the launch of its first every small car – The Skoda Citigo. The move is a very important one for the company because they are setting foot in a never before zone and things could surely heat up if things do not go as intended in the small car market.

SKODA Board Chairman Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland,The Skoda Citigo Looking To Make It Big Articles said, “The Citigo is one of the pillars of our growth strategy. The car offers all of Skoda’s values in a compact package and fits perfectly with our aims. The Citigo is literally a ‘Simply Clever’ car. Despite its small size, it offers ample interior space; it is agile while frugal. Put simply – it’s an attractive choice offering many clever ideas. The car offers all of Skoda’s values in a compact package and fits perfectly with our aims.”

The car will look to be a utility and spacious urban car. The car has a wide wheelbase of 2.42 meters and can easily occupy up to four people with comfort. The car also has a boot space of 251 litres and looks to be quite a spacious car for its size. The rear seats can be folded to have 951 litres of boot space which opens a world of new possibilities for your weekend family trips. The car measures 3.56 meters long, 1.65 meters wide and 1.48 meters tall. The Skoda Citigo engine will come in two variants with two new 3 cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engines with 60 PS and 75 PS of power output. The car along with robust performance also offers great fuel efficiency.

The Citigo is inspired from the Volkswagen Up and apart from the looks and some interior changes the car is essentially a VW Up. They both share the same engine options and the dimensions as well. The key point of difference arises with uniquely shaped headlamps, restyled tail lamps, reshaped bumpers and different alloy wheels. This is not the first time that the cars share the same platform. The Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia too have the same trims and engines ripped off from the VW Jetta and the Skoda Laura. The Skoda Laura will in fact pitch against its own cousin, the Volkswagen Vento.

The inside of the car has numerous storage compartments, cup holders and multimedia systems. The car will be available in three door and five door variants. The three door version will have seats that can be adjusted. The car is also equipped with a portable navigation system and a 5-inch touch screen, which can be taken off on the go so that passengers can use it when the driver is driving. The system will also come with Bluetooth phone connectivity and an infotainment system. The safety of the car has also been taken car with Head-Thorax side airbags to protect the heads of the front passengers in the event of a crash. The Citigo also comes with an advanced braking system to help prevent collisions below 30 km/h.
