It is strange but how many of us associate building a business with starting up.  Without doubt in your first year or two there a lot of things to think about:

How will I promote my business?

How will I price my products or services?

What is my area of expertise?

What do I really want to do?

Who are my target clients?

How will I access target clients?

What is the best business structure?

In reality,5 Tips for Buiding Your Business Articles business building is an ongoing activity and an integral part of what you do.  Once you have decided you are going to be your own boss, delivering the results is down to you.  You become the CEO, Finance Director, Operations Director, Sales and Marketing Director.  So what do I offer in terms of ideas for building your business?

Establish what works best for you

If you are someone who loves interacting with others then networking events can be a great way of promoting what you do.  If you love writing, a regular column in a trade or professional journal might be best.  If you are in a service business, you might want to utilise existing contacts.

Try out different things

The tip here is don’t put all your eggs in one basket.  Try things for a short period and if they don’t work try something else.

Don’t aim for perfection

Many people fall into the trap of spending forever developing their web-site, brochure, flyers, etc.  Remember it is better to have a less than perfect product out there as your perspective of good might be different to others.

Be ready for rejection

We all think what we have to offer is essential.  It does not mean that everyone else does.  Remember, when people say no, they are not rejecting you, just making the choice not to buy what you are offering.

Be clear on the benefits

People need to see the benefits if they are going to buy.  Be ready to state these clearly and succinctly.  It might be useful to write them out or record them on a tape recorder to test out how compelling they are to you.

At the end of the day, business building is key activity whatever business you are in.  So what do you need to do to fully engage in building your business?
