If you are considering advertising for your business then you must realize that things have changed from the market that existed even two years ago. If you check out what big retailers are doing it could help you decide on a plan. You have to give them credit for keeping afloat,Advertising: Put Your Name On Everything! Articles some have gone under. Obviously they are doing something right to get peoples attention. It is true that those huge chains have more money to spend, but you must realize that they also have a much greater overhead.

Hopefully while you have been in business you have collected some of your customers addresses. That way you can mail a coupon to them directly. These are naturally the best people to approach with the discount approach because they have already bought from you and are likely to do so again. If you don't have very many names on a list, then you can print some door hanger style coupons and hit the street.

There is always the time honored tradition of having a sale. Put a sign out front and mark everything a little off, and some things a lot off. You could also do a buy one get one deal for certain items. I have noticed several upscale restaurants that have specials going on to lure people. One place that normally sells a $12 martini is offering them at $2 if you come in before 7 pm. And they have 1/2 price steaks early too.

Put your name on everything.  Promotional advertising is by far one of the best ways to get your business noticed.  Handing out promotional giveaway items like pens, umbrellas, hats, t-shirts, and even water bottles can go miles in advertising your business.  Offer them in your ad for a sale.  Let people know that the first 50 people who come to your store for the sale will get a free hat (or whatever other promotional item you would like to offer).  Believe it or not people will be lining up for these great items and when they leave with them they will be providing advertising for your business.  Promotional items serve great purpose in promoting your business.

Don't forget to talk to people. You should be able to get a little info to everyone you meet. If you keep some promotional pens or magnets in your pocket they could be handed out too. It is always good to make the round of small businesses near your location, and give them some pens or note pads. You never know when one of those people will need your services. It makes sense to go and be friendly too. You are much more likely to call a company that has actually extended the hand of friendship as opposed to one that you have never seen.
