A large company would have a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black leading the team as they act as coaches and provide the technical knowledge of quality tools for the project team. A typical number for a team or a company is usually in a ratio of a master black belt for 1,000 employees. A large business has a lot of black belts in their system, because they are a great company. Master black belts coach and support the entire project, as well as develop and train employees.
Once the leadership and teamwork have been established, the real improvement can begin. This can be done through meetings with other employees and top management staff meetings as are decisions about what processes need to be worked and how to fix them.
A large company would have a team then able to identify the gaps through the stage of analyzing and developing those gaps in improvement projects. If there is a gap that must be fixed as they are indicators of low levels of product that lower profit margins.
An improvement staff of several people would then seek out what can be improved, and more importantly implement and make sure the improvements are working. Without keeping track of what is being improved, there is no way to tell if the system is working or not.
The final step for a large company or the company would control the project from its inception to its initial implementation. This can be obtained from measuring everything from the beginning and existing systems, performance analysis, improvement and control of the new system to maintain the original problem to return.
A large company would employ the six sigma method of business the same way as a small or medium corporation, only at a much larger scale. It does work and it would be a great step in the right direction of increased profitability for any business.
