Furthermore,British Safety Council Reveals Its First Workplace Health And Safety Manifesto Articles the manifesto also shares plans on how improve the publics perception of health and safety in the workplace, the importance of sharing knowledge and expertise, the need for sensible procedures to be in place and the need for more literature to be provided on how to gain a better understanding of risk.
As well as this, the report also aims to demonstrate how good health and safety procedures can bring a number of benefits to businesses. For many companies, basic health and safety measures such as providing suitable training programmes and installing safety matting are often neglected whilst other core activities of the business take priority, especially whilst the UK is in a recession. Despite the gloomy economic outlook, health and safety needs to be prioritised in all workplaces.
"It is a fact that globally millions of working men and women are still afflicted by the consequences of badly managed health and safety. But law and enforcement alone, although important, is not enough: in a nutshell let us manage risk better not ban behaviour," the safety council declared on its own website.
It is clear that health and safety procedures are not always set out by businesses and the report will further ensure that steps are taken to address the problem by making a number of suggestions which will help to cut through the bureaucracy which revolves around the legal frameworks and consider how employee/employer relations can have a significant impact on health and safety.
Recent figures revealed that in 2010/2011, 171 workers were killed at work and over 15,000 injuries were reported. Over 26.4 million days were lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury which reveals the impact health and safety has on many organisations, employees and the economy.
The Working Well report will be accessible on the British Safety Council website from Monday 23rd April.
