If you are like so many in the dollar discount business, you are experiencing a great deal of cost pressure. Virtually all of your wholesale dollar store merchandise prices are creeping upward. The same goes for freight, and just about every other expense your business faces. Yet if your long-term plan is to maintain a dollar store, or dollar plus store format, it is still worthwhile to seriously consider adding closeout merchandise to the inventory you present to shoppers for purchase.

If you are like so many in the dollar discount business,Closeout Merchandise Sales is the Perfect Complement to Dollar Store Merchandise Articles you are experiencing a great deal of cost pressure. Adding these products not only creates some extra excitement for shoppers, but also adds the opportunity for you to create better margins for your business.

There are many ways to add these products to the mix without scaring shoppers into thinking you are increasing the prices of all the dollar store products you currently offer.  One strategy might be to maintain all necessity items at the dollar price point.  These would include basic household cleaners and health and beauty items, as well as disposables and paper goods.  You might even add in some of the complementary products shoppers will grab just for the low dollar pricing.

You can build the product selection from there by adding in more name brands and extra large packages in these same departments.  Only these would be priced at greater than one dollar.  In essence your dollar store product mix might look like this:

Mainstay consumable products shoppers need day after day could remain targeted for the dollar store consumer.  After all, we all use these dollar store merchandise items on a regular and routine basis.  Having access to them at the dollar price point just sweetens the deal.

Broaden the selection of these all-important dollar store items by adding in higher priced overstock and shelf pull items as well.  Doing a little work could yield some well known brand names and even much larger packages for just a little more money.  The shoppers in your store will be thrilled to find the name brands they know and trust at bargain prices as well.

The balance of the merchandise you offer could be a mix of dollar store merchandise, overstocks and then a mix of higher priced closeout and liquidation items.

Following this example provides your shoppers with a broader selection of items at great prices.  This opens the door for you to add to your current sales while also generating a bit more profit for your business.
