Conservation Architects of Edinburgh

No building is the same as any other building.  Of course, you would say that every building is built in a different style, and so the statement is a very obvious statement.  This is not so.  Even if two buildings, which are exactly the same, are built in two different places, after a little time has passed, they will no longer be similar to each other.  This is because a building grows with the city around it, with the people that inhabit it, with the climate, the weather, the economic conditions and the socio-political conditions of the city in which it is present.  Thus, even though two buildings might start off looking exactly the same, they will end up each with a unique heritage of their own, with their own histories and their own stories to tell. 

A building thus, is a tangible proof of the history it has lived through.  Be it a war, or a celebration, a building will bear the mark of these events somewhere or the other on its body.  This is what makes buildings such beautiful pieces of art, and this is what makes it of supreme importance that these buildings have to be conserved, so that the history and the people that they represent remain intact through the travails of time.  To conserve a building does not involve repairing any damages in it in any which way.  Conserving a building takes a lot of skill and immense knowledge, and the person who is a professional at this is called conservation architect. 

A conservation architect is not just an architect.  In him, there should be present both a great visionary and an avid historian, working perfectly in tandem with each other.  The historian part of him or works to make sure that the building he or she is conserving and restoring looks like how it looked at the time that it was built.  This requires an intimate knowledge of the material that were used during the times when the building was built, the architectural styles that were used, as well as the methods used to build it.  It is only after keeping all these things in consideration that a building will remain true to the original time it was built in. 

Edinburgh is a city that very aptly showcases its glorious past through its beautiful buildings.  This is because every Edinburgh architect is zealously and passionately devoted to the practice of maintaining the beautiful city's proud heritage.  The Gothic heritage of Edinburgh, in fact, is still very easy to see today because of its prominently Gothic buildings.  These buildings are standing still, after weathering so many changes, only because of the care of an Edinburgh Architect. 

A city is without a soul if it does not represent its history properly.  It might have the most modern facilities and the greatest people in it, but it will still lack that intangible feel that other beautiful cities have, if its ancient monuments and buildings are not well taken care of.  After all, it is only from the past that one learns one's lessons, so that similar mistakes can be avoided in the future.
