We look at what a 'recession proof franchise' means and whether its possible for a business to truly be recession proof.

Recently I have seen the phrase ‘Recession Proof Franchise’ alot online. So what exactly is this? Plus is this a reality? It would look to be the perfect answer in the existing downturn if there was actually a franchise business that was genuinely ‘recession proof’.

I believe a more correct expression would be ‘recession resilient franchise' as I have thus far to come across a company that is full proof (although please drop me a line if you discover one as I’ll be at the front of the line ) and in truth the task falls on the operator of the business as to if it is a success or if it fails,Considering a Recession Proof Franchise Articles indifferent to whether it is franchised or otherwise.

Types of franchise which might be classed with the phrase, ‘Recession resilient franchises’ are in general ‘must have’ services and product provisions. These types of franchise business often endure the storm nicely since they are viewed as non-optional or necessity type things as oppose to extra products or services which might be pleasant to have but, whilst cash is tough, are not necessary for living.

‘Must have’ type franchise businesses generally drop into two categories: business-to-consumer and business-to-business:-

Business to Consumer
These type of businesses take in, for example, necessary domestic services such as plumbing repairs, vital household maintenance, cleaning services and the like.

Business to Business
Business to business deals with, for example, business expense reduction and office cleaning services. These offer fine choices in view of the fact that their individual marketplaces can potentially be what some are referring to as ‘recession proof’… or ‘recession resilient’ as i rather to call it.

This doesn’t inevitably rule out franchise offerings which can potentially be considered outside of this scope. There might of course be additional types of business that don’t fit into the classic ‘must have’ services but seem to be fairing well in the economic downturn for the reason that their product or service is particularly popular at this moment. This is worth considering when performing your research so as not to lose out on what may well currently be a fine business opening.

At the end of the day, when selecting a franchise system, one of the most suitable measurements to how recession ‘proof’ or ‘resilient’ a franchise opportunity is, is their existing franchisees.  When considering a franchise opportunity, regardless of whether its its appearance is to be ‘recession proof’ or not, make certain you do your proper research. Get a record of a selection of various franchisees from the franchisor you are considering and make time to chat to them about how their franchise system is doing in the light of the downturn.  This will present you with helpful insight into how well the franchise is doing through what is one of the hardest times on record for businesses globally.
