Are you unsure of what to tip the movers who assisted you in moving your personal stuff into your new apartment home? We have listed some simple guidelines that will tell you how much to tip the movers that you hired.

Should I Tip A Mover To Begin With

If you were to ask 8 different people, not only would you get an assortment of answers. And the amount to tip would vary too.  Probably most movers don’t receive a tip nor expect to get one, but it is nice to give someone a little bit extra for lifting heavy boxes and furniture. 

And if you do tip, make sure its in cash. So be sure to have the right denominations when they are done..

The Tipping Guide

There are a couple of different guides you can use to figure out the tip.  Usually you can tip a standard amount per mover or tip based upon the total cost of the move. Many people will use an easy figure like 5% of the total move. So if your move costs $500 the tip would be $25. 

If you prefer to tip each mover individually and you don’t base it on the cost of the move, consider the number of hours that it took them to complete the total move. Why not tip them $15 for around 4 hours of work. And if it takes the entire day, you might want to increase this number.

Here are some addition items you might want to take into account when tipping a mover. 

*Did the movers have to go up and down several flights of stairs? Was it a lot of hard work? You might want to consider the amount of work they had to do.

*Do you enjoy the services? Were they considerate? You should tip based upon the total move itself.  If you had dinner at a restaurant and had a great overall service, you probably would tip more.
