DMX512 stands for Digital Multiplex, a digital communication networks that are commonly used to control stage lighting and effects. It was originally intended as a standardized method for controlling light dimmers.
DMX512 controller includes DMX master and DMX slaves which are connected through a bus and control signal is sent by the master to the slaves, and the first slave can transmit data to next one. DMX512 data connector is available in various types including RJ45, XLR-3 pin and XLR-5 pin. The masters are DMX console, and the slaves are dimmers and lighting devices. Each bus allows up to 32 units slaves and controlled by one master, and the maximum distance can be up to 1200 meters.
The slave controller receives the data and outputs PWM signal to the connected lights and enables users to control mono color, dual color, RGB/RGBW LED lights with smooth brightness adjustment, color temperature, RGB color tone adjustment. While connected with a router by RJ45 port, it can be controlled by a PC console (application) or mobile devices wirelessly.
There are many styles of DMX masters available in the market, for instance, the keyboard style is a traditional one that suitable for lighting control that requires complicated adjustment of each color and channel. Simple and easy styles for home lighting control are available, such as rotary switch and full touch panel with simple interface that is easy to understand and use. Especially the full touch panel enables all control by simple touch, you do not have to be a professional, it's easy to use.
DMX slaves are light dimmers that accept DMX control, you should choose a proper one for your LED lamps based on their input type. AC version is designed for AC input LED lamps and DC version is designed for DC input LEDs, and the output type of DC version is available in constant current and constant voltage. For DC version, an AC to DC power supply is required to power the slave. The DMX512 controller is reliable and stable for not only large lighting projects but also residential lighting to create different moods for different atmospheres.
