A specialized field of architecture deals with the conservation of heritage buildings and structures of a city. This type of work is undertaken by architects called conservation architects whose interests and area of work lies in the repairs and restoration work of old architectural sites and heritage buildings. These professionals apart from having knowledge of the history of their buildings must also have the ability to apply their modern architectural knowledge to the restoration of the history of the city.

A conservation architect has to maintain the look and feel of the building without causing any intervention to the buildings structure,Edinburgh Relived Articles detail and material. In other words restore past glory without tweaking the look. This work commences with identifying the amount of wear and tear the building has gone through. Gathering information about the history of the building and the whereabouts of the people involved in erecting it. Identify the areas for which maintaining the character of the building is non-negotiable. Reinstate the building by applying modern techniques and sciences of architecture and bringing it back to past life. Sometimes it may also be imperative to introduce a new element to the structure which may be a reinterpretation of a feature that existed earlier. This spells for the conservation architect an opportunity to apply his ideas and invent using traditional or modern design.

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland is a city known for its architecture and has a large presence of conservation architecture. Some of the famous projects undertaken by Edinburgh architects are the West Bow Projects, the plain ashlar façade of 87 West Bow and 3 and 7 Lennox Street.

We shall describe the work of art undertaken by Edinburgh architects in the restoration of the West Bow projects. The West Bow projects include A-listed buildings spanning from across 87 West Bow to Crockets Land located at 91 West Bow. The West Bow projects also include on the other side of the street the buildings between 80 and 92 West Bow. All buildings on this street including the street itself have been declared a World Heritage site.

The most magnificent and striking beauty of this project is witnessed with two contrary and glaringly different looks of the descending feature of the Victoria street and West Bow and the ascending walkway of Victoria Terrace. When restoration work was commissioned here, the appearance and the general condition of the buildings was pretty dilapidated. Today the city of Edinburgh is proud to have its past glory restored with the institutionalization of the West Bow projects.

Edinburgh architects are a force to reckon with. They have a passion and zeal worth replicating. The one common thread that ties them together to take on such projects is the glorification of the past of the city of Edinburgh exuded through their architectural expertise and finesse in restoration of the glory and beauty of the city’s heritage buildings and sites.

It’s never too late to go back in time and revive architectural beauty for the future.
