Everyone looks at success differently. Some look at their life as a whole, while others may divide it up into financial success, family success, relationship success etc. However you define or look at success, I have learned a surefire way to ensure you are successful at almost anything and everything you do.

Now I know that’s a pretty bold statement, and while I am the first to admit it may not work every time. If you add "learning a lesson" into it and change your definition of success slightly, you WILL be successful every time.

So, what is this magic formula for success? Well, the best way I can explain it is through a story my sister in law told me about a recent trip my brother and her took on a vacation.

For about 10 years or so they had been taking a week off each summer to visit the family cottage. The cottage was beautiful and located just an hour out of town. Recently married, it was his first trip to the infamous family retreat. He decided to surprise the family and drive up there on his own. He outlined his route on a map, and somehow found the street name of the family cottage. He was to drive for about an hour, then turn left off the highway. How hard could that be?

He began his trip, and after about an hour of driving, he began to look for the turn off street. He kept driving, after about another 30 minutes of driving, he decided to turn around. He drove back to the area, and looked around and still could not find the street. He stopped a man walking his dog, and he gave him directions - but he was no closer. He stopped again at a corner store and they provided directions, and he still was no closer. At this point, he began to lose his patience. And was about to give up. He decided to ask one final person who seemed to be walking back from an outing on the river. She explained that the street had been renamed, and was only a minute or less from where he was located. Within minutes, he was at the family retreat.

Now the secret to his success and yours is if you want to know how to get somewhere (and be successful) - find someone who has already been there before.

As an entrepreneur, a mentor can help you drastically speed up your learning curve and help you achieve goals that at one time you had only dreamed of. I am always on the look out for mentors for all aspects of my life.

Remember success is just one relationship away.
