It is not always easy to manage people, especially in companies and organisations. This is mainly because every person has his or her own personality and as the manager, you should always try your best to get things in order. It is also good to bear in mind that people management is an art, not a science. This means that you do not have to be an expert to know how to manage the people around you.

Managers normally sit down to oversee events as they unfold from various sectors in the company or organisation but on the other hand, a leader is meant to serve. Be humble

As a leader, you should be able to admit when you make mistakes since no human being is perfect. This should be done for the sake of the continuity of that particular business or organisation. When people realise that you can accept your mistakes and their consequences, they will always try their best to avoid them in future.

Do not be too lenient

As a leader, you do not have to be too lenient since people might take it as a weakness. You should let them know how you like to see things done and what makes you upset. This makes it easier for your subordinates to understand you better. They will never wish to make you upset since they are aware of the consequences.

Apply the 2R system

This system mainly focuses on Relate and Require as the best ways of improving your management skills. Relating includes good behaviours that build relationships, listening, asking, coaching and encouraging. On the other hand, Requiring is all about the provision of results. This includes expectations, performance, goal setting and tackling problems. In some cases, the implementation of the 2Rs leads to bad relationships between the two parties since not every employee might be willing to provide results. This should not bother you in any way since you have to be bold enough to maintain your stand.
