In A Failing Economy, Is Free The Best Promotion?

It is no surprise that businesses right now are struggling to attract customers. Some are using free giveaways to do this. You have to wonder if this is working. If you are worried about just giving to the masses and losing your butt, don't. People will come in for some free coffee and then buy other things.

It is no surprise that businesses right now are struggling to attract customers. Some are using free giveaways to do this. You have to wonder if this is working. With the economy being so hard on small businesses, it seems that giving some things to people can work. You see the huge chains doing this, why not you?

If you are worried about just giving to the masses and losing your butt, don't. People will come in for some free coffee and then buy other things. A lot of the time all that it takes is luring someone through the door and then they will feel comfortable enough to come back. What you are doing is giving people a chance to have a break from the struggle of everyday. Even offering free drinks with dinner would be a draw. You still have them paying for dinner, and maybe ordering more because of saving on drinks.

In the long run offering big discounts and free stuff will work in this ailing economy and this is because people need to feel that they are getting something for contributing to your business and getting free stuff makes them feel more comfortable about buying other items.

Those big corporations give away promotional stuff like mad. They know that it works. You can make it work for your small business too. If you get some items printed with your logo or name put it with an attractive image that makes people think of you. Get things that they will use and wear. Use these as a draw. You can give some t-shirts or hats to those that have been coming in daily or weekly forever, appreciate the regulars. For others make the item go with certain purchases or have a card that gets stamped or something.

Change what you are offering people on a weekly basis at least. They will come in just to see what is new. You will get a nice discount for buying multiple items from companies that put out promo stuff. Make them work for your business too!
