Keep Control Of Your Office Move Plans
You could be forgiven for believing that an office move is almost impossible to handle. It's certainly true that these changes seem to cause a lot of concern and you may well have heard plenty of stories that suggest that they can easily go wrong. If you have been tasked with managing such a move, then you may well be feeling worried.
You may think that I'm just trying to make you feel better, but it really is true. If you think about it, smooth moves don't really make great anecdotes. None of us want to hear boring stories of that nature. If we do hear them, then we tend to forget them pretty quickly anyway.
With that in mind, let's turn our attention to what's important, when you're looking to keep things on track. There are a number of elements that I would be keen to identify, but I would say that one of the most important aspects here is to ensure that you have a suitable plan in place. Many of the disasters that do occur will undoubtedly stem from a complete lack of planning.
How do people fall into this trap? Although it's easy to criticise, I would say that there's a danger here for all of us. The problem is that an office move is rarely given the time and focus that it deserves. You'll usually be expected to just find a little time here and there. That's simply asking for trouble.
It's interesting to compare the approaches that people take to these moves, when considering projects that are carried out for clients. In the latter case, it's likely that you have a full project plan and plenty of time dedicated to getting the right results. Unfortunately, such an approach is rarely taken when it comes to internal projects.
This lack of time and planning is almost certain to lead to problems and it's very clearly something that you should be looking to avoid. Instead of hoping that things will go well, it's really important that you take the necessary steps to ensure that problems are avoided. In the first instance, that probably means having a full, written plan.
As the project continues, you'll need to refer back to that plan and to ensure that everything is still on track. The nature of this situation means that there will be a flurry of activity during the course of the last few days before the move.
Such activity is much easier to handle, if you know that it's all part of the process. You need to understand where every elements fits in to the overall approach.
