As long as the goals and standards aren't set at an impossible goal, the employees usually love the chance to compete against each other and you will be able to see the results immediately. No employee wants to see their totals as the lowest in the department. There are plenty of other ways that can bring a better morale to the company, but making your employees happy is the best way to ensure that things are going on all cylinders and that everyone is happy.
