Is there a driver you know who always goes above and beyond their duty to make sure that your client’s goods are delivered on time and in great condition? Is there a haulier about whom you seem to get more than usual positive feedback,Nominate Your ‘Trucker of the Year 2017’ Articles or someone who does a lot for charity or good causes?

Well now is the time to recognise these heroes of the road because the chance to nominate drivers for the Trucking Magazine’s prestigious Trucker of the Year award has begun.

This year Trucking has teamed up with Transport Café and Truck Stop News, with sponsorship by Staveley Head, to find the very best of Britain’s drivers.

How to Nominate

Trucking magazine is looking for the very ‘best of the best’ of our gallant Knights of the Road, drivers who have impressed you for any reason at all. All you have to do to nominate them for this accolade is to go to the Trucking magazine website and follow the links to the nomination page.

Fill in the driver’s details and a short statement (fewer than 100 words) about why you think they should be considered. Just get your nomination in before midnight on 1 October 2017, and it will be put before the award judges for the final decision.

Previous Winners

In previous years the organisers of Trucker of the Year have been inspired by the sheer number of truckers nominated with stories of long hours and endless dedication, proving that our British truckers really are some of the best in the world.

Some nominations came from grateful families who wanted to give thanks for the sacrifices that have been made for them, like haulier Craig Hall’s family, who’s children nominated him because they felt he was ‘the best trucker’.

Because last year there were so many inspiring nominations, Staveley Head decided to post them on their Facebook page so that everyone could recognise the good work of these dedicated drivers.

It was a hard choice but last year is was Russell Oliver from Shipping Wars who walked away with the prestigious Trucker of the Year award. Oliver is a second generation trucker (his father having taken him out on the road since he was five) whose wife described him as always taking time to pass on help and advice to fellow drivers.

Russell received his nomination from his wife and others for his helpfulness and prolific charity work. Last year he raised £23,000 to repatriate Paul Stanyards, a trucker who had died in his cab in Italy. Not only did Russell raise the funds to bring his body home, but he also arranged a trucker’s convoy for Paul’s funeral.

So if there is a special driver you know who has made you proud to be part of the haulage industry, why not make the time to give them the plaudits they deserve by nominating them as this year’s Trucker of the Year.
