Occupational Health is an important consideration to protect the employees at your job in the various dangers faced on a daily basis.  An employee should be instructed with safety techniques to ensure they are able to complete the task in a healthy manner.  Safety equipment or Personal Protective Equipment is often utilized to protect the employee while they perform their daily duties.

Employees working with a saw on a consistent basis should observe basic safety steps to ensure they remain safe.  A worker utilizing a table saw should utilize a board to push the final portion of the material being trimmed to ensure the wood does not jump and cause an accident or injury.  The employee should utilize safety glasses to ensure debris does not get into their eyes causing damage.

A Certified Industrial Hygienist can work with your company to ensure there is a focus on Occupational Health at your company.  Each position faces unique challenges that should be overcome to promote a safe working environment for each employee at the facility.  Dangers present themselves in many different ways.  Some hazards are physical hazards such as working from heights or the threat of objects falling from above.  Other challenges could be working in confined spaces or suffering hearing loss after prolonged exposure to loud noises.  Heat exposure causes problems in the summer months with workers outside or in areas without air conditioning systems.  Each hazard presents a unique challenge and should be addressed individually to ensure the workers remain safe.

A workplace without accidents or injuries allows the employees to increase productivity.  The entire workforce can be hampered with an employee out sick or recovering from a workplace accident.  This can also result in expensive worker compensation claims or fines from OSHA due to company negligence.  OSHA may have an unannounced inspection to look at the working conditions for each job role at the facility.  Any deficient areas will be compiled in a list of fines with a requirement to make improvements immediately.  OSHA may then increase inspections to ensure Occupational Health for each employee is a top priority of management.
