Business Management ArticlesEmployees face unique challenges in different job roles and companies make preparations to keep the employees safe.  Safety concerns increase exponentially when the employee is working with hazardous chemicals or in hazardous environments.  An Environmental Health and Safety Professional can work with your company to ensure the employee is safe while at work.
Hazardous chemicals require specific handling to ensure the worker is safe.  Some preparations that the company can take is by implementing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for each employee to guard against the specific dangers that the chemicals being worked with present.  Corrosive hazards may require certain gloves and protective clothing to ensure the chemical will not come in contact with the worker’s skin.  A plan of action is also taught to each employee to ensure they know what to do in the event an accident or injury occurs.
An Environmental Health and Safety Professional can be the company’s expert to recommend specific opportunities to improve the health and safety of the environment the employee is working in.  Chemicals with toxic fumes should be designated to specific areas that are prepared to address the hazardous environment created when working with those chemicals.  A separate filtration and ventilation system should be setup to ensure the hazardous environment is not spread to other areas of the facility.  Any worker in this area should have the appropriate PPE to keep them safe while they are in the environment and after.
OSHA requires companies make the needed preparations to ensure workers are healthy and safe.  Violations of OSHA mandates can have costly penalties and increase OSHA’s scrutiny to look for other violations that might be occurring.  The Environmental Health and Safety Professional can be your company’s representative when OSHA makes a visit to your facility.
