Roofing can be one more way to add color to a home’s exterior. Here are some things to think about.

Roofing doesn’t always have to be nondescript. The roof of a home can add or enhance the exterior color scheme of the place. Blah-brown can be replaced with chocolate,Roofing, Color and Your Home Articles evergreen, charcoal or even red. Why choose a boring hue when a design statement can be made to bump up curb appeal? There are lots of other ways to add personality and pizazz to a house, too. Here are some things to think about:

- Roof materials: Standard asphalt shingles are not the only game in town. How about an upgrade to architectural thirty-year asphalt shingles? These products cost a bit more than the twenty-year variety but they are more textured, last longer and come in a larger palette of hues. Bringing a few samples to the house to see how each possibility aligns with the siding or facade's tones will be a good idea. It’s hard to recollect colors from memory. Other roof materials that can add to the curb appeal include metal, such as aluminum, copper or steel, Saltillo tile, or wooden shakes. Saltillo tile is a heavy product but has strength and will last a long time. It can come in a variety of colors but brick red is one of the more popular tones. Metallic surfaces can compliment an array of paint swatches and trims.

- Trim: Many designers choose to paint the trim next to the roof the same color. This gives a home a finished look when lined up against the body of a home. Painting the wood around windows and door frames the same hue will be a nice way to add symmetry and balance to the place. These touches add continuity and make the parts work together for one dramatic picture.

- Front door: Why have a plain wooden door when it can be painted red, green or blue? Feng-shui experts believe that the door color will affect the chi and energy flow coming into and out of the residence. It’s an inexpensive way to have a splashy entrance to one’s abode.

- Mailbox: Black and dented? No thanks. The mailbox at one’s residence is the gateway to the world. It should be attractive and reflect the inhabitants of a dwelling. Some artists paint mailboxes to transform them into works of art. All it takes is some weather proof paints, several sizes of brushes along with creativity and there you have it – a work of postal art. If a person can’t decide how to possibly transform their beaten up mailbox into beauty, they can search via the internet to come up with some stunning ideas that they can emulate.

- Paint the house: Changing the hue of the body of a dwelling can make a big difference too. If wanting a new look, this is a drastic improvement that can be made at a relative low cost. Replacing siding with pre-stained types is a two-for-one way of remodeling with ease.

Roofing is just one more way to transform the appearance of a home with pizazz. Color choices are personality statements at their best.
