If your roof has been damaged or just needs to be replaced because of age,Roofing- Romano Roofing Articles Romano Roofing has the expertise and experience you need to get it done. Replacement or repair of a damaged roof, immediately after the damage has occurred is important so that other areas of your property, in particular, ceilings and interior walls do not become damaged as well. Some of the more obvious warning signs that you need your roof replaced include roofing materials lying in your yard or an observation of missing or torn roofing shingles, or cracks on a flat roof. Less obvious signs of roof damage include interior wall blistering, dark spots on walls, sheetrock discoloration in your attic spaces, algae buildup on shingles, crimps or upward tilting roof edges on the exterior edges of your roof line, and dirty looking shingles. No matter how well you maintain your roof, it may need attention. You can mitigate some of the more urgent and costly roof repairs or roof replacement with regular maintenance and inspection of your roof.

You can visually inspect your roof and check for ice dams on the edges of your roof and clogged or damaged gutters. Roofs that are not adequately sealed can result in ice dam formations that can cause a lot of damage when melting water accumulates under the edge of your roof and drips onto decks or into the spaces between your outside wall and your interior walls. To prevent costly repairs in the future, be alert and check your roof for problems often. Repairing any roof damage as you discover it saves you the expense of a roof replacement before the situation occurs that actually requires you to do so. A simple ridged roof consists of declined rafters that rest on vertical wall-plates on top of each wall. The top ends of the rafters encounter at the horizontal ridge plate or ridge beam. Horizontal purloins are fixed to the rafters to support the roof covering. Heavier under purling are used to support longer rafter spans. Tie beams or the ceiling joists are interconnected between the lower ends of opposite rafters to prevent them from spreading and forcing the walls apart.

Collar beams or collar ties may be fixed higher up between opposite rafters for extra strength. The rafters, tie beams and joists serve to transmit the weight of the roof to the walls of the building. There are a numerous of structural systems engaged to facilitate this, including the use of wall-plates set at the top of the wall, hammer-beams, which spread the weight down the wall and create an equilibrium between outward and upward thrust, king posts which transfer the weight of the roof ridge, and various types of trusses. In cyclone and hurricane prone areas the main engineeringconcern is to hold the roof down during severe storms. Every component of the roof has to withstand the uplift forces of high wind speeds. This is not normally a problem in areas not prone to high wind. Day today Modern roofing technologies, seeming in the accompanying photo of a house under construction in a region of Northern Australia, include the purpose-made steel hook bracket which is bolted to the truss with M16 bolt. The bracket is bolted to an M16 bolt cast in situ, embedded 300 mm into the reinforced concrete block wall. This system is usually in place every 900 mm around perimeter.
