SGS has been formally registered as an EU Timber Regulation (995/2010) Monitoring Organization by the European Commission. As a registered Monitoring Organization, we are able to provide EU operators – those who place timber and timber products on the EU market for the first time – and traders with operational due diligence systems, something they are obliged to implement under this regulation.

OPERATOR OBLIGATIONS UNDER THE EU TIMBER REGULATION

EU Timber Regulation (995/2010) has established several legal obligations for operators and traders. Applicable across all EU member states it requires them to implement:

  • A due diligence system

  • Risk assessment procedures, to analyze and evaluate the risk of illegal timber reaching the market
